How do you choose the books in each box?
Detective Lizzie spends hours reading children’s books to ensure we can offer the best books of the moment. We work with a wide range of publishers, so we always have a wide choice available.
Lizzie reads every book to ensure it is just right for our detectives. Browse our selection of book boxes or see what’s currently available in our bookshop.
Which book box should I choose?
Detective Lizzie uses her teaching experience and expertise to ensure that the books are just right for our readers. Our book boxes cover three broad reading groups.
Please bear in mind that the age suggestions are recommendations and every child is different. If you are buying a book box as a gift, you could ask the child’s parents or carers for advice, or please feel free to contact us and we will work with you to find the best gift.
We currently have book boxes available for children aged 4-11 years.
We love to make reading enjoyable for the whole family, so we have selected books that the whole family can enjoy; we find that some support from an adult at home will help our readers get the most out of their book box.
Detective Constables – 4 years +
Our Detective Constables box is designed for early readers who are growing in confidence. Our broad age guide for this box is 4 years +.
The books in this box are full of illustrations to bring the book to life and support reading comprehension. In this box we might include early chapter books of around 100 pages, non-fiction books or picture books.
Readers might be able to read some of the book independently, or they might really enjoy reading it with an adult. This is an ideal box to share as a family.
The Mystery Case – 5 years +£19.00
Detective Sergeants – 7 years+
Our Detective Sergeants box is designed for children who are enjoying chapter books. Our broad age guide for this box is 7 years +.
The books chosen can be enjoyed by a variety of ages and are great when read together. Typically, the books chosen will be around 200 pages in length and will still include illustrations.
In this box we might include chapter books and non-fiction books. Usually, our Detective Sergeants are happy to complete most of their case notes independently, but we find they are always happy to share their top-secret assignments with others.

What do I do when I have finished my book?
We have a few ideas for that! You could set up your own book shop at home, start a book swap with a friend, write a review, pop it on your bookshelf and come back to it at a later date and have a second read or you could donate it to a charity shop.
Is your packaging recyclable?
We have thought carefully about our all of our packaging to ensure that as much as possible can be re-used and eventually recycled. All of our packaging is from sustainable sources.
Our book boxes can be used to store your books or for craft projects; when you’re finished you can recycle it in your household recycling bin, along with our kraft paper wrap. Even the clear discs we use to secure our packaging for postage are completely biodegradable.
